Bandcamp Friday Recommendations (12/4/2020)

I am setting this to auto-post in the wee hours of the morning December 4th, 2020, which is the last Bandcamp Friday of 2020... but if you happen upon it afterwards, it will still be a great list of the many, many albums on Bandcamp that I recommend wholeheartedly...

Firstly, you can find my twitter thread of Bandcamp recommendations from May through November below:

And, I've already put together a list of 25 great charitable albums, Albums to be Thankful For... plus three posts of Xmas music (Albums, Tunes, Discoveries), most of which can be found on Bandcamp.   Over on my gaming blog, Antagonist Relations, you can find my series of 'Music to Game To' which features many albums that are on bandcamp that make good tabletop RPG soundtracks & inspiration.

As always, you can see my whole Bandcamp collection at bandcamp.com/schwarzz

If that isn't enough, here are some more recommendations to check out on Bandcamp.

Labels

Here are some labels that I have found make it easy to discover great music.

Tridroid Records

Your favorite (mostly) tape label. Queer lady owned.

Tridroid puts out righteous metal tapes, and it's been a great resource to discover metal that you can be confident has good political leanings instead of having to wonder what regressive rightwing, fascist or sexist nonsense the band might subscribe to.

Habibi Funk

Arabic Funk, Jazz and other organic sounds we like from the 1970s and 1980s.

Every album I've picked up from Habibi Funk has been incredible, plus they have a 4+ hour free series of mixes.

Born Bad Records

The BORN BAD RECORDS label is a contemporary rock and roll label, fleeing the 'revivalism' of many of its peers, the label acclaims groups (mostly French) who try to offer a different and new sound in a musical genre sclerosis.

The label also offers many thematic reeditions which unearth the works of French artists who went unnoticed in their time. These re-editions explore the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s as well and aim to showcase the creativity of French artists who are too far ahead of their time.

I have mostly been diving into the re-editions this label has put out, which have been incredible compilations of their time & genre.

Unexplained Sounds Group

Global Network of Aural Disorientation

Unexplained Sounds Group is a platform run by Sonologyst (Raffaele Pezzella) to investigate the experimental worldwide music scene.

Unexplained Sounds Group puts out incredibly interesting compilations of experimental electronic from various countries and regions, making it easy to find avant-garde music from around the globe.

Signora Ward Records

Italian tape label harsh nylon Noise wall

While they have some power noise bands, lately Signora Ward has been putting out tons of great doom and dark jazz.

Albums

Below are some albums I've picked up on Bandcamp recently that I've not recommended elsewhere...

The Bit

Hypnotic dark ambient post-rock from masters Baker, Goff and Harris.

The Birdwatcher's Guide to Atrocity

Post-Human, Post-Gothic music perfectly suited to the near-apocalypse of this year.

Forest Dwelling

Relaxing experimental ambient drone with harmonium and singing bowls, organic and immersive.

Long in the Tooth

Psychedelic Jazz Funk from the Budos Band.

KIM

Lingua Ignota's haunting cover of Enimem's "Kim"

Photosynthesis

Dulcimer infused experimental black metal.

A Bar Too Far

Haunting and original piano backed torch songs.

May Our Chambers Be Full

Thou and Emma Ruth Rundle team up for a fantastically heavy metal album.

Monument

Post-punk Sovietwave synthpop, perfect for those who love 80's bands like Joy Division.

Raw and Disfigured

Emil Amos releases another haunting Holy Sons record, low-key, melancholy and subtle.

Toy

This excellent album was described somewhere as "Ambient Country" and with its haunting, dusty guitar and soundscapes, it certainly fits that bill.

Graveyard Sex

The latest album from the legendary Chris Connelly, poetic with minimalist instrumentation that highlights his voice and skill as a singer/songwriter.

Sketches of the Unknown

The Blasting Company return with some outtakes and demos of tracks from Over the Garden Wall.

Enjoy and I hope you discover some fantastic new tunes that you might not have otherwise discovered...
